Root and install Clockworkmod Recovery on Samsung Galaxy Y S5360. The thing about rooting your Android phone is that it lets you acquire the entire control of its Linux-based operating system. You can customize almost everything thus doing an extraordinary task that is impossible without root access.
You might feel freaky when you know that rooting voids your device warranty. But don’t panic as the warranty can be easily regained back by unrooting. I assure you that you’ll love to play doing customizations on your device after rooting. Also, few sites have a habit of putting unnecessary fear in your mind. Just refrain from going to those websites.
They might themselves have a fear that you could perform and function in a better way than them. Once you have root access on your Android phone, you can not only enter the world of kernels and recoveries but can also use some very powerful and unique apps. Along with that, it’s possible to remove bloatware.
Moreover, you can customize internal system files, boost your battery life, make your device a wireless hotspot, create secure tunnels to the Internet, completely block advertisements, or even help to overclock your device processor. Your device performance can be increased to a vast level by the method of Rooting.

How to Root Galaxy Y and Install CWM Recovery
The developers modify Stock ROMs, add more amazing features, and optimize and customize them to their best level and imagination power. Although both of these versions have their own pros and cons, many users prefer going towards ROMs. For flashing ROMs, you need to install recovery on your phone.
The two most famous recoveries are Clockworkmod (CWM) and Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) recovery. But among these the most preferred one is CWM. It was developed by Koushik Dutta a well-known name in the Android dev community. This recovery allows you to perform several advanced operations including Nandroid backup, restores, flashing ROMs, etc.
Most importantly, these operations aren’t possible with stock recovery. To enter into this CWM recovery, you need to use the combo buttons method. This technique varies from device to device. After entering, just navigate to the ROM package file and select to flash it. Let’s proceed to root and install CWM recovery on the Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360.

I own a Galaxy Y GT- S5360L. Does that last letter “L” make any difference?
Your instructions point to flash the packages only for the Model GT-S5360 and that any other device or other variant may damage the device permanently. Is it safe to install?
Do not try..Your device is not compatible..
Works in my device. Thank you. Perfect guide.
The rooting package is no longer available from Dropbox. Any chance you can re post it please?
Link updated..
Thanks, got it. Worked very fast.
Brilliant! I now have full control of this Galaxy Y which was almost unusable with all the bloatware, which has now gone! Also moved all my apps onto the SD card with Link2SD app, on symbolic links, ROM backed with Nandroid backup app, and even got access to system media files with ES File explorer to add my own notification ringtones. All those apps have so much more to offer when rooted. All started with this article. Didn’t know any of this before, and I am a pensioner. Thanks!

You may directly update to lollipop

To check root successfully installed or not … we can see a new icon in phone Superuser
but how to check CWM installed or not ?????
You may check by using home + power + volume up button to enter recovery mode..
Rooted the system then went to flash CWM 6.0.5.3 (file recovery-clockworkmod-6.0.5.3-totoro.zip). It seemed to install OK, and I now get the CWM menu, headed “CWM-based recovery v6.0.5.3”). However, when I try to backup the system (select “backup and restore” then “backup to /storeage/sdcard0”) I get an error message “E:Can’t mount backup path”, and I get variations of that message whatever I try to do. So now I’m stuck in a kind of bootloop where all I can boot into is CWM. Help!
1. Download and install Mini Tool Partition software on PC.
2. Insert your SD card in card reader & connect it to PC.
3. Launch the software.
4. Right click to SD card, select modify & set partition to Primary.
5. That’s it! Insert SD card back to phone and perform backup..

I was using earlier version. But now it is not working on my phone. That is why I want to know if updating to Lollipop version will be useful? or is there any other way for using the latest App without going for Lollipop. Thanks
I used that app before to flash custom rom on my rooted phone. Thanks for sharing!
