Pre-Requisites:

  • Charge your OnePlus 6 at least 60%.
  • This process will delete your complete phone data. Hence take backup of your contacts, apps, accounts, messages, call logs, notes, etc.
  • Install OnePlus USB drivers on your PC to detect your OnePlus 6 when connected via USB cable.

  • Also, enable OEM unlocking and Advance reboot mode from Developer options.
  • (Optional) Temporarily disable antivirus and firewall on your PC.

After performing everything as mentioned above, let’s go to the actual bootloader unlocking process.

Steps to Unlock Bootloader of OnePlus 6:

Step 1: Download the ADB setup.

Step 2: Install the downloaded ADB drivers on your PC.

Step 3: Using a USB data cable, connect your OnePlus 6 to a PC.

Note: Ensure that OnePlus USB drivers are installed on your PC.

Step 4: Go to the location C:\Program Files\Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder (where you’ve installed the ADB and fastboot). Then by holding the shift button of your keyboard, right-click on space. From the list, choose the Open command window here option. This will launch the command window as shown below.

Note: If the following message pops up on your phone, press OK.

Step 5: In the cmd window, type the below command and press the enter key:

adb devices

As soon as you hit the enter key, a message saying ‘List of devices attached’ will appear. This will confirm that your OnePlus 6 is successfully connected to the PC.

Note: If such a thing doesn’t happen then re-install USB drivers. If the problem persists, change the USB cable or port.

Step 6: Enter the below command and press the enter key:

adb reboot bootloader

This will restart your OnePlus 6 into fastboot mode as shown below:

Step 7: Now enter the following fastboot command:

fastboot devices

This command will again confirm a successful connection with some random numbers.

Step 8: Let’s start the OnePlus 6 bootloader unlock process. For doing so, type the following command and hit the enter key:

fastboot oem unlock

As soon as you hit enter, the bootloader unlocking process will begin.

A message will appear on your phone screen as shown below:

Note: On this screen, use Volume keys for navigation and Power key for selection.

Step 9: So using Volume keys navigate to Unlock the Bootloader option and select it by Power key.

This will actually start the OnePlus 6 unlock bootloader process.

Note: This step will wipe out complete phone data and settings. Hence ensure to take backup before this step.

As soon as the process completes, your OnePlus 6 will reboot itself automatically.

Note: From now on, whenever you restart your phone, a message saying “The bootloader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed” will appear. Don’t panic as this is completely normal and will not impact your phone whatsoever.
