Compatibility
Note that this Android 5.0 Lollipop Custom ROM is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy Y having the model number GT-S5360. Do not flash this on Galaxy Y duos or any other device as it may brick your phone. Make sure that you are having the same phone as mentioned above. You can confirm that from Homescreen–> Menu–>Settings –> About Phone.
Pre-Requisites
- Make sure that your device has good battery life. Charge it at least up to 60% to lower the chances of interruption during the flashing process.
- Backup your entire phone data and settings including contacts, messages, call logs, memos, etc. Copy the same on your external memory card or PC for more safety. This is most important as in the last step of this flashing process you need to clear all the data and cache from your phone’s internal memory.
- A very sensitive folder called EFS is present in your system directory which must be backed up before flashing any ROM. This is highly recommended as this folder contains all your phone’s specific information such as the IMEI, wireless device MAC addresses, product code, and much more. If you flash a ROM without backing up this folder then there is always a risk that this EFS folder might get corrupted. If so happens, your device will be completely useless & will no longer be recognized by your carrier. Refer to our article to backup and restore EFS/IMEI data:
- Install mobile-specific drivers on your PC to recognize your phone when connected via a USB cable. You can install them by installing Samsung Kies or manually install them from the link given below:
- Make sure that your Galaxy Y S5360 is rooted. Also, a custom recovery like ClockworkMod (CWM) must be installed before proceeding further. Follow the guide given below to do so:

After doing everything as mentioned above let’s proceed to the actual Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM installation process.

Procedure to update Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 to Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM
Step 1: Download all the above zip files in a specific folder on your computer. Remember not to extract them.
Step 2: Then using a USB cable connect your phone to the PC, enable USB debugging mode, and transfer all these zip files to your external SD card. Do not place them in deep directories. Also, do not extract them.
Step 3: Now disconnect your phone from the PC and switch it off completely. You need to enter into the recovery mode now. Refer:
Note: Touch does not work here in recovery mode (Unless you’ve installed touch recovery). So use the Volume up and down keys for navigation and the Home button (middle button) for selection.
Now you need to do a complete Nandroid backup which is nothing but the backup of your entire operating system. This backup is essential in case this installation fails or some problem occurs, then you can easily restore the saved previous ROM from the CWM recovery.
Step 4: For doing a complete backup, navigate to the ‘backup & restore’ option on the recovery mode itself, and on the next screen select the ‘backup’ option. This will make a complete nandroid backup of your current ROM.
Step 5: After taking a complete backup, Select the ‘wipe data/factory reset’ option followed by the ‘wipe cache partition’ option on the recovery mode to clear all your data & caches from your phone’s memory respectively. Note that this step will clear all your phone data so ensure that you’ve backed up everything before applying this step (as mentioned in pre-requisites).
Let’s move to the actual Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM flashing process.
Step 6: Now navigate the main menu of recovery mode and select the ‘install zip from SD card’ option. On the next screen select the ‘choose zip from SD card’ option. As soon as you click on it, you will see all your data present on the external SD card.
Step 7: Using Volume keys navigate to the Update.zip file which you’ve just copied earlier and select it. On the next screen select the Yes option to flash the same.
Step 8: Return and again select ‘install zip from SD card’ followed by the ‘choose zip from SD card’ option. Navigate to the Ext4_formatter zip file and select it using the Home button. On the next screen select the Yes option to initiate the flashing.
Step 9: Similarly flash the kernel_CM7_v4.0_totoro zip file from the recovery itself.
Step 10: After completing everything as mentioned above, navigate to the Advanced option located in the recovery mode itself. Select the Reboot Recovery option on the next page.
Wait until you boot again into recovery.
Step 11: Next navigate to the wipe data/cache partitions and clear them.
Step 12: Then navigate to the Advanced option. On the next screen select Wipe Dalvik cache and Wipe Battery stats options.
Step 13: Return and navigate to the mounts and storage option. On the next page select mount data, mount system, and everything.
Step 14: Let’s flash the Android L ROM now. For that navigate to the ‘install zip from SD card’ followed by the ‘choose zip from SD card’ option. And then select the Android L ROM_S5360 zip file. Confirm the installation by pressing the ‘Yes’ option on the next screen. This will start the actual ROM flashing process. It will hardly take a few minutes to complete. Wait until the process is completed fully.
Step 15: After the flashing process completes, navigate to the ‘reboot system now’ option to restart the phone. Note that the first boot will take more time to start than usual.
Note: If you want to restore your previous ROM then you can do that by simply going back to the recovery mode by holding the Home Button (middle button) + Volume up key + Power Button simultaneously and selecting the ‘Backup and Restore’ option and then on next screen select ‘Restore’ option.
After rebooting you’ll see the Spanish language instead of English. So to change this to English follow the steps given below:
Step 1: In Applications search for an app named Ajustes. This is the Settings option.
Step 2: In Ajustes, search for Idioma y teclado option.
Step 3: On the next screen, select the Seleccionar Idioma option.
Step 4: This will show you all the languages. Just select the one you want. I selected here Indian English language.
That’s it! You’ve changed the Spanish language to English successfully.
Conclusion
After reboot, your Galaxy Y S5360 should be running on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. You can confirm the same from Homescreen–> Menu–>Settings –> About Phone. The Upgrading all went well….now i have lollipop like interface throughout my phone….in ‘about’ my phone it is shown as running on 5.0…..BUT…my phone is still not a 5.0…WP Launcher needs android 3.0 or more to run….and when i try to download it they say it is not compatible with my mobile…why is this???

Today I followed all the instructions to root a Galaxy Y GT-S5360 that a friend of my wife gave to her, made a backup first, did the update.zip-part, the Ext4_formatter.zip-part, the kernel_CM7_v4.0_totoro.zip-part and the Android L ROM_S5360_droidthunder.com.zip-part, including the clear cach and successfully started the Galaxy Y GT-S5360 with the new ROM. Before I placed a sim-card, I connected to my wifi en wanted to download and install WhatsApp. I encountered the 492 error.
I tried all the clear cache options but without success. After that I followed the procedure for the second time. Clear all cache, installed the update.zip, ran the Ext4_formatter.zip, reinstalled kernel_CM7_v4.0_totoro.zip and reinstalled Android L ROM_S5360_droidthunder.com.zip, cleared all cache again en rebooted the system.
Changed the language settings, and now, before setting up a google acount and before making the wifi connection started application manager and cleared google services framework, made a wifi connection, rebooted the Phone and downloaded whatsapp and when asked, connected to my google account. Now downloading and installing Whatsapp was successfull (no more 492 error).
So many thanks for the files and instructions.
PS I noticed that not every word in the rom was translated in my language but that’s not a problem.

In Root explorer app, click on the Mount R/W option (present at the top)..Now you can copy any font in system folder..
I converted/upgrade successfully my GT-S5360 to 5.0 lollipop
but i skip mount/unmount step … will this create problem in future for my device ???
after install all this …. can i delete unknown icon/apps

After update Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 to Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM I had problem with google play, I added my gmail account on google play, but I can’t install any apps, I got this error (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-7:AEC-0]). I used many solutions from forums (ex. wipe date and wipe cache,remove an account and add another one, clear date and clear cache all google apps in my default apps) but nothing helped. After that I installed latest version google play app through my sdcard and now I have this error during install (Error code: 492). I don’t know what else to try. Could you please help.
Do you have any other download links for your Ext4_formatter file that can be downloaded using my S5360? I don’t have a computer and the link that you provided does’nt work using my phone.. Is there any way possible to send me a direct download link in my email? I hope you can help me with this.. I want to upgrade my 2.3.6 to lollipop 5.0..

Downloads:
Download Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM for Samsung Galaxy Y S5360.
Download Ext4_formatter.
Download kernel_CM7_v4.0_totoro.
Download Update zip.
For those who are not able to use play store, there is an alternative…. I installed this rom and was not able to use play store either, so i created an user at SlideMe and installed their market place apk. It works, you can download the apps from there and install on your phone normally.

Due to hardware incompatibility of Galaxy Y, those apps won’t work..

Very good job my friend, it works perfect on my samsung y. For error 492, i was able to fix it permenantly following this guide “https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755163”.
I have only one thing that it troubles me, when i ‘m connected to internet (wifi or data) the sync icon is always shown(on) and and never stops and as an effect to that i cannot use google play, it opens but does not load at all, stays on empty screen. if i uninstall google settings and google play services and delete google play updates everything works perfect, but after a while google services is again installed, as the google play updates.
Do you have any solution for this?

P.S. I tried with disable service apps to block the google & google play services from installing & and google play from updating but didn’t work.
I had the same problem. Fixed the 492 problem as you suggested. Then google play was frozen as in your cased. I have cleared cache and dalvik cache. Then google play loaded (needs some time to load first time). Also I had to move google play services to SD card to save memory space. Sync icon shows always, but google play works.

Thank you for the instructions. I have installed it without problem. However, I cannot download from Google Play. Always error 492 is the result. Followed your other post regarding error 492, but solutions did not work. Are there any fix?

I can download from Google Play, but for 99% of the apps are marked as “not compatible”. Even the very simple apps with no special hardware requirements like file managers etc. which require Android 4.0+ are “not compatible. How to fix this?

Modifying build.prop won’t be that much helpful still you can give it a try.
